Forms of Love: Part Three – Eros love

The third form of love from the Greek is one that many people are familiar with. Eros love is the type of love that refers to the “passionate love” that is between two people that are “in love.” We get the word “erotic” from Eros. Eros is also the word that expresses sexual love or feelings between people who are physically attracted to one another. While Eros love is familiar to all of us, it is the one love that requires the most self-control and intentionality to keep it within the boundaries that it belongs.

Forms of Love: Part Two – Phileo love

Phileo love is the form of love that exists between friends and means “affectionate regard.” While we may not always carry Phileo love perfectly towards one another, it is the heart of Jesus for us to love one another well. In John 13:35, Jesus said, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples”. That’s pretty straight talk right there – our Phileo love for one another is not just about us, it’s about the example that we carry and present to the world.
